Whenever we see a show featuring some of the works from Kaitlin Beckett, we have to see it – invariable, it is exquisitely gorgeous. In a bundled up weird-wonderful way, her creatures almost seem possible, or at least, they take on the aspect of creatures that you wish could be possible. If we were living in a bio-mechanoid world, or on a far flung corner of some world in Neil Ashers Spatterjay/Polity series, we’d probably expect to see the cousins of Kailtins bestiary in all their glory.
It’s Kaitlins first solo show in a while, and its one her fans have been waiting for, and, for Melbourne residents, there should be no missing it – it will be, in oh so many ways, out of this world.
“Exoskeletons – Biological and mechanical exoskeletons for assistance, protection or ornamentation.
Exoskeletons form a rigid support for a creature beneath. Frameworks of interlocking bones, structures of metal, straps and attachments draped over creatures can intimidate predators, provide strength and additional movement, and decorate their plumage, scales or shells.”
