Thursday Transmissions – ROA, Atlas & Scrawl

Well, we’re pretty sure that this weeks Transmissions beats all the rest and is the largest we’ve done yet – in sheer number count anyways! With so many videos we’ve seen this week that piqued our interest, we wont delay – get watching and enjoy it all as much as we have …

deansunshine landofsunshine melbourne streetart graffiti invurttoptennine3Custom thumb Thursday Transmissions ROA, Atlas & Scrawl

As he’s one of our favourite artists, and as we helped out Art Series Hotels in their time up at Cockatoo Island, well, we have to start out with this video showcasing ROA at the event – love his work.

CDH was in the news last week, and, we’re sure you would agree, but removing this piece of implemented art, which actually added to the piece and made it quite amazing, was a fair wrong turn for Melbourne City Council – why not leave it as it was? It was pretty damn brilliant … read more of this story behind the sculpture on CDHs website.

On the Outpost Project tip – Art Nation had a special segment on the event, and if you haven’t been or haven’t thought much of it, this’ll probably make you want to go.

A little more on Outpost, as ArtSeries also did a piece a few days ago on the Oi! You! Exhibition – and there’s a bit of an interview in here with George Shaw, who put it together …

Numskull has the opening of his "Mixed Messages" exhibition tonight, and here’s a great sneak peek preview of the show.

We’re still seeing a lot of stuff turning up from D*Faces visit to us last month, but this is a more than excellent book ending to a grand visit! Check out the Bright Things TV segment on the artist …

At ten minutes, its pretty long – but this is an entire walkthrough and look at all the work up in the Pastemoderism 3 show – so much artwork …

<

They’ve been working on this for a while now, but Kaff-eine, Precious Little, Tig-tab and Blacklodge have been working on a pretty cool urban exploration show that’ll be on in January – we have the feeling that this is going to be something really quite extraordinary.

As we mentioned yesterday, Anthony Lister was in Sydney for Outpost as well – and this is a preview of the piece that’s launching today, Rainbow City Gaze. Nice.

Here’s a great time lapse of a recent piece by Makatron – love it.

Max Berry and Mark Alsweiler also have a show on this week, and this is preview of it – All Things Lost.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t put this up – Acclaim Magazine are celebrating their 25th issue soon, and they had Ken Done do the cover! Between Ken Done and Dropbears, we just can’t think of anything more fittingly Aussie.

Ironlak posted this up today of the Deer Duck Bistro being painted up in Brisbane by the Anomyart crew.

Lastly for this week, something quite cool – Tanja Jade, who opened a show at Backwoods last week, and Simon Peters put together this cute little cartoon – pretty funny stuff!

Well, that’s all we have again! Don’t forget to browse through previous weeks, and, if you have a cool video you want us to include – send it through!

Exhibition – BOARD – Melbourne

The NGV Studio Space has had a whole heap of cool stuff going on over the past few months, and the next installation there is going to be just as fantastic as the previous.

Having seen our friends posting a whole bunch of customised board images over the past week or so, we have to say, the work produced for this show is gorgeous. This isn’t surprising, considering the line up has almost a whose who of talented artists – the girls from Just Another Agency have done it again, in helping out the team at NGV they have bought us all a fantastic slice of creative deckery.

“Allowing an insight into the creativity behind skate culture, ‘Board’ explores the evolution of deck graphics and design.

With curatorial contribution from NGV Senior Curator of Contemporary Art Alex Baker, Board features historically significant skateboard decks drawn from the collection of Tony Hallam – one of the most comprehensive of its kind in the world, alongside a selection of decks by contemporary artists.

In conjunction with NGV Studio, Just Another Agency has selected over 50 of Australia’s best established and emerging artists to take part in the group show ‘Board’. Juxtaposing the old with the new, each artist has donated their time to produce an original work of art using a skate deck as their canvas. These decks will then be sold to help raise much needed funds for the innovative ThreeSixtyProject.

Just Another Agency will also be showcasing a number of live painting demonstrations over the 3 month period, giving the public the opportunity to stop by the studio space to see artists at work. Each workshop will feature 2 artists of similar subject matters and medium, while each diverse in their own right.”

This show goes on all over summer, so there is no excuse if you’re around the ‘burn to miss it – so just pop in and see the amazing work for yourself. Oh, and buy something! The funds, as said, go toward the ThreeSixtyProject!!

Artists Workshops (check back here for running updates on Artists Workshops)

The second of our Live Painting workshops have been announced for NGV Studio and will feature Just Another Agency collective members Kirpy and Rena Littleson.

They will be in the space from the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Dec from 10am -10pm each day.

So head on down over the three days and say hi, get up close and personal with them and check out their art!”

Invurt Rough Guide – Outpost Project

Earlier this year, we heard about an ambitious project to transform Sydneys Harbours Cockatoo Island into a mecca of street art. When we first heard it, it seemed a long way away, and we weren’t sure exactly what it entailed. Over time, we started learning more, and getting an idea as to what it would encompass – and it was bigger, bolder, and more jam packed with awesome than we ever imagined. The Outpost project will be a showcase of Australian street art, and international street art, that outweighs anything that has previously been seen in Australasia.

Over the next five weeks, we’ll be focusing on the Outpost Project for our editorial content – we’ll still have our regular blogs, but we’ll also be running a string of content as we document whats going on up at the island. We’ve also been working with the wonderful ArtSeries Hotels to help coordinate several forums and artist showcases as well, and there will be all kinds of posts around those. The entire team here has been gearing up for this for the last few months – its here, and we’re totally amped!

So, this is your rough guide to the event – from here will be links to articles on each event, interviews, live blogging, photos and all the rest. Use this as your feed, or just keep reading as you normally would to keep on track – all the Outpost content will be tagged so you can always just check the tag feed … Outpost will be a ground breaking event in the Australian street art legacy – we can’t wait, because its going to be mad – so read on, bookmark this article, and keep checking back here for new content links.

This is only a guide, and we’ll keep it as up to date as possible, so if in doubt, please refer to the Outpost Project website.

Event & Exhibition – Dangerfork Popup Shop – Melbourne

We’ve been sighting some amazingly high quality, beautifully rendered artists prints around the traps for a few months now – and they are all created by none other than one coolest new print making labels in Oz, Dangerfork.

"Dangerfork is a boutique print-making label based in Melbourne, Australia. We make limited edition silk screen art prints on paper with original artwork from young, emerging artists from around the world."

Dangerfork prints are all hand made, and they have a high degree of attention to detail. Having witnessed the quality of them first hand across a variety of spaces, from the Ed Bechervaise prints to the screen printed wood pieces at last weeks Makatron show, there is no question; Dangerfork are upping the standard.

In light of all this, and to give you a chance to peruse their output yourselves and get a glimpse of what they’ve been up to, as well as the direction they’re heading in, they’ll be setting up a popup store in Collingwood early next month. Not only that, though, but they’ll also be putting on and hosting two feature exhibitions in late November and early December – and we’ll have more info on those a little later.

So get down, and check this shit out – you wont be disappointed; we’re betting that you’ll probably walk away with something to frame and put up on your wall after you’ve visited …

Thursday Transmissions – Webisode One, Paint and More

Well. What can we say about this week? It’s a record week. Not only do we have a special first release for you, but we have officially broken the ten-videos-in-a-week number, and what a run of videos they are …

First up – if you haven’t seen it already floating around the place since last night, we have our very first official Invurt webisode out and released – this episode was done by Carl Allison, with photos from James Watkins @ T-squat.com and showcases the recent painting that we did of the Rival Revolution studios (where we are based) – along with a bunch of great friends, and great artists – including Ken Taylor, Shida, Facter, Jack Douglas, Scale, Aida Sabic, Makatron, Heesco, Ears, Sim2, Conrad Bizjak, Cubik, Ed Bechervaise, Pierre Lloga, Slicer and E.L.K

We’ve been spending a fair bit of time in the past few months transforming the space into something inspiring … so take a look, show your mates, and let us know what you think!

Next off the mark, is another awesome video, this one is of Makatron creating a fine damn piece at the Rhino Room in Adelaide – no one does beasts like Maka, so you have to see this video!

Makatron @ Rhino Room from MTW Media on Vimeo.

The fine talents of Heesco are up next, this is the video of his painting at West Syde Connection when he was up in Sydney last for his round of Secret Wars. Dope art, dope venue.

Not surprisingly, this one features Heesco again, and rightly so! This time its of his latest print release that has been done by Aisle6ix Industries in conjunction with Secret Wars … nice, want.

Vans The Omega, Askew, Dabs/Myla and a bunch of friends doing fantastic things in LA – so awesome.

Only Time Will Tell from Vans The Omega on Vimeo.

Tron and Salo did this cool time release of a piece they did the other week …

A wonderful video run down on the amazing Artboy 1st birthday sale – its a teaser of all the art that will be on sale at the gallery real soon!

Check out this cool timelapse that we found from kiwi artist Paul Walsh – mad.

I don’t think that we put this one up just yet, it came out last week – this is the latest Secret Wars video of the battle between Sprinkles & Kon!

This is a preview of the next show that will be going on at the NGV studio space in Melbourne, Inherent Vice – eight cartoonists getting together and creating – it looks really, really cool and we can’t wait to find out more about it!

Okay … thats’ all we have for this week – that’s well enough haha, but if you do any any videos and you’d like for us to feature them, just let us know and we’ll post them up for you!

Exhibition – Everfresh @ NGV Closing Event – Melbourne

All great things must have a closing party! So that’s what the guys from Everfresh will be doing this Friday night. As they say goodbye to their temporary work space at the National Gallery of Victoria, the crew will be displaying a whole bunch of new work that they, and some of their friends, have produced in their time there.

Though its been cool seeing the crew and the studio displayed so prominently in the city at such a worthy establishment, its really about time that the fkn crazy mad graff mobile got on the road – so maybe we’ll just think of this as its launch party, instead of the studio closing party – champagne, anyone?

This is an awesome time lapse of a piece that was done by Beastman at Sydneys FBA studios – wow.

Beastman at FBA from False Behaving Animals on Vimeo.

Surge, Dabs & Myla stopped back in Melbourne not long ago – and this is a sweet video of what they did with the SDM crew!

The very cool Bright Things TV did a great interview with Renee from Surface POP and the guys from Traditional Health Care in regards to the recent Bricks, Beats and Pockets fundraiser – some cool cameos and some great info on oz street art – very much worth the watch.

Magnus McTavish did some work on the 4ZZZ wall in Brisbane recently, its big, its bold and its crazy cool.

We love this as well! Nakai Booth-Hargreaves edited some really great time lapses of Makatron (check out last years interview) doing what looks like some ones wall in their backyard with his sweet as ladybugs, and more ‘bugs and a huge flower on a pretty damn large wall – so dope.

Always good to end on the high note, and thats pretty damn high – stay tuned next week for more roundups of the weeks best street and art videos from across Oz – ez.

Exhibition – South Of The Border – LoFi – Sydney

If its one of very few gripes we have about living in Melbourne, is that we can’t go to shows in other states, especially all the LoFi shows – because every single one in the past year or so has been fkn fantastic. We’re sure the Sydneysiders have the same gripes about not being able to always come to show here – so this one coming up would be great for those wanting a taste of Melbourne.

Taking a small portion of the dearth of talent in the Melbourne scene, LoFi will, next week, be hosting over seventeen Melbourne street artists in their group show, South Of The Border.

“Melbourne city is known the world over as one of the most significant
and sophisticated hubs for art that occurs in the streets & metro systems. Unlike other Australian cities the way the city has been designed with its numerous lanes, voids, and privatised transport systems, have encouraged Graffiti and Street Art to naturally boom in this Southern City. The artists from South Of The Border are either native to Melbourne city, or have relocated purely for the opportunities that are available there for artists. This exhibit is a celebration of the some of the leading artists of the Melbourne Lowbrow movement.”

Exhibition – Up Close – Sydney

To celebrate the opening of their new gallery, Colour by Numbers are kicking things off with their show ‘Up Close’. If this ridiculous lineup of  artists is anything to go by, then this will be a gallery to keep your eye on.

In a rather unique approach, Colour by Numbers is a transitional gallery featuring pop-up events in both Sydney and Melbourne: “Aiming to support emerging and established artists from both Australia and overseas, Colour By Numbers Gallery will have fortnightly exhibitions, showcasing a range of artists spanning the genres of lowbrow, contemporary, street art, graffiti, illustration, photography, film and installation. Colour By Numbers Gallery is a new concept to Sydney and Melbourne, presenting regular pop-up exhibitions at different unique locations throughout Sydney and Melbourne cities and surrounding inner-city suburbs every two weeks.”

The artworks for the show have been donated by over 30 artists to support the opening of the gallery. The clever kids at Colour by Numbers will give you one of the donated artworks in exchange for a donation towards the gallery to help get the doors open.  With this many clever ideas, and this many fantastic artworks up for offer, we are really looking forward to see what else these guys have in store for us.

Studios – Invurt @ Rival Revolution – News & Happenings

New week, new category – we’ll be posting up any studio related news in the “Studio” category from now on, and any other studios or studio news around Australiasia will go into this section!

Studio Spaces Now Available (Prahran) – Located just off Chapel street, Rival Revolution Studios, where Invurt is based, is now actively seeking artists to come join the space. Studio space partitions have now been built, and we’re looking for creative individuals to come and work with us in the complex! There are a few spaces available, adorned with some grand artwork (see below!) as well as a private room space that would suit a pair of people. We’re a pretty collaborative bunch, and we’re hoping to get people who are not only interested in pursuing their own work, but would like to be a part of our growing little community in the 3181.

Please contact Tony at Rival Revolution on 0425705133 or email givemerival@rivalrevolution.com if you are interested in any of the cool and affordable spaces that are available!

T-Squat Interview – the totally mintox James Watkins from T-Squat has been in and out of the studios in the past few weeks, and he has written a feature article about Rival Revolution and Invurt. If you’re interested in whats been happening behind the scenes, and what Rival Revolution and Invurt actually are and reading an interview with us, then go and take a look!

Studio Paintup Pics

We’ve shown a bunch of snippets here and there on our facebook page, but here are all the pics of the studio paintup in progress!

There’s actually lots more to come, we’re still collating everything, but this is a bulk of them. Artists in this lot include Heesco, Sim2, Props, Mishap, Enix, Magnus McTavish, Katie Houghton-Ward, Heidi Philips, Ken Taylor, Shida, Jack Douglas, Scale, Aida Sabic, Makatron, Ears, Conrad Bizjak, Cubik, Ed Bechervaise, Pierre Lloga, F@R, Slicer and E.L.K. As you can see, its all a work in progress, but now that the walls are up (which isn’t pictured in this) its really starting to feel like its all coming together and the hard work is paying off!

The first set is the collection of images we took of the actual building and painting of the Invurt Studio.

This second set, is of the Rival Revolution paintup sessions, such a great day, all driven by fun, passion, and, of course, Doss Blockos!

Thanks to James Watkins and Lara Dale for all the images (the non-dodgy point and shoot ones are all my abominations!) You can find all of these, and a whole heap more on our facebook page!

We’d also like to thank all of the artists, friends, and everyone else involved who have supported us over the last few months in helping us transform everything – and a special mention and to our man Jacob, who has hammered and nailed, sawed, drilled and even bled on all of the construction work! Thanks everyone, you’re the fkn best.
