Live Art – Space Invaders – Seniors Festival – Melbourne

Another awesome event within the Space Invaders banner comes this October, in conjunction with the Seniors Festival.

A morning tea and live painting event hosted by TwoOne at the RMIT Gallery in Melbourne.

“Drawing and crafting have been a part of his life for as long as he can remember. He gained an early interest in graffiti specifically while photographing a two-kilometre stretch of wall in his hometown. TwoOne moved to Melbourne at the age of 18 and quickly became a prominent part of the local street art scene.”

This free event is a wonderful idea and should go down a treat, TwoOne is a fantastic artist. So, if you’ve got an elderly friend, family member or just some nice old guy from the bus stop, let them in on this cool event, and help celebrate the festival of our elders!

Event – In The Cut Vol.3 – Melbourne

As part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival, In The Cut – Vol.3 bring together the best of both worlds this October when (the aptly named) Good Times Studios host a mega event that will have North-side peeps adoring the walls and shaking the floors all in synchronised harmony.

Bringing “the laneways of Fitzroy to the underground of Carlton” the one night only exhibition/live music event will showcase some of Melbourne’s best, brightest, funky and fresh including artists; Deb, Braddock, Kaitlin Beckett, Junky Projects, Phoenix, 23rd Key, Flake, Lazerfist, Nelson Nokela and beats provided by The Delta Riggs, The High Society, Ishu & Class A, One/Six, Durban Poison and Van Grizzly!

“In the Cut is an exhibition that’s not only about the art it’s also about the music that inspires it.  A combination for the senses: street art, ‘paste-ups’, stencil and installation mixed with hip-hop, funk, indie tunes and Melbourne’s finest MC’s- what a combination!

Artwork that would once adorn the bricks and mortar of the infamous laneways will now be showcased in an exciting group show featuring some of Melbourne’s finest street artists. But with an unusual formula: all proceeds from the sale of the art will go directly to the artists – 100%”

Another show we just can’t wait to see!

Event Wrap – Red Bull Wreckers Yard Finals

On a rooftop in Fitzroy on a cool Melbourne Saturday night, some of the best street artists from Australia and New Zealand gathered for the finals of the Red Bull Wreckers Yard. The culmination of this Trans Tasman event saw Brisbane artist Sofles took the top spot for the second year running. Some incredible pieces were whipped up by the artists in what was an impressive series of just 12 minute rounds, and I for one am certainly looking forward to some more of these Trans Tasman combos.

Ever with the innovation, At Large gallery are presenting a new show in the form of SLAPSTICK. With a bit of a difference, art will be produced on the day, and placed on to panels, wherein afterwards people can win pieces of the panels created – great idea, and sounds like a lot of fun.

In the words of the At Large crew:

“Join us on a Saturday afternoon for a few hours of chilling and jamming!! BYO stencils and paint, pasties and brushes, markers, stickers. We are inviting everyone to come and cover panels inside our gallery for two hours between 2-4pm with whatever they want.
