Exhibition – Fletch Cuts & – Lost Track – Espionage Gallery – Adelaide

Things just keep getting better and better, along with the news of a new gallery opening up later this month (more on that soon!), Adelaide continues to throw up some of the coolest shows we’ve seen.  Next up from the Espionage team is a show from Fletch Cuts and Lost Track, two fine assed cutters with unique styles and mad skills.

"Espionage Gallery Proudly Presents Lost Cuts, a exhibition by Lost Track & Fletch Cuts, two of Adelaide’s most prominent stencil artists.

The culmination of many months work Lost Cuts will see 2 of Adelaide’s most skilled stencil artists come together for a stencil exhibition out of this world!

With Lost Track’s focus on bringing the world of the outback to the streets of Adelaide and now the gallery space and Fletch Cuts incredible attention to detail this is one exhibition you will not want to miss."

Man, we keep saying it, but we really have to get over to Adelaide – it’s really starting to boom, and the quality coming out of there is second to none. Mad times.

transmissionsheader1 thumb Thursday Transmissions Cameo, United & Cube

This is one fine ass video put together by David Anthony Parkinson featuring Adelaides Cameo – watch this one, its straight up grand and really well produced.

United Cans seem to have released two videos in recent weeks, and here is the first one featuring the ID Crew in Richmond – this is fkn great!!

Second up for United Cans also features Fitzroys Refills store. Putos, Libre, Bailer, DV8, Nektar and Silker all feature in this one. Also fkn great.

Tom Vincent has just released a new video alongside his new website – we love this mans work.

This video featuring The Yok, Daek and Sheryo in New York is rad as!

Last year we covered Street Cube, and they’ve just released a video covering the live painting event up on the Gold Coast. Beastman, Shida, Jae Copp and Gimiks Born all feature in this.

Check out this short video from Vexta of her painting up in the Hibernian House in Sydney

We’re big fans of JKB Fletchers, and heres a really great process video of one of his works from beginning to end. Nice.

Lastly, we have to post this up, just because it’s one of our favourite videos we have seen all year! International artist Jeff Soto teamed up with Chevy – the results of which, well .. you have to see for yourself!

Exhibition – Cameron Brideoak – Mythmaker – Adelaide

In this somewhat elephantine memory of ours for artists names, it isn’t surprising that we constantly stumble across names that we thought we should know, but somehow don’t. That said, discovering new artists is one of the reasons we love doing this.

Such was the case with Cameron Brideoak – so we’re pretty happy to say that until now we hadn’t seen much of his work, as its allowed us to discover something pretty cool. We’re definitely going to be keeping an eye on this guy, especially given the sneak peak of his work for his show coming up at Espionage Gallery in Adelaide

"Cameron’s work is a melting pot of ancient meets modern. Japanese animation meets fine art. A show framed entirely with eastern fabrics, Cameron has created a series of characters, inspired by world mythology.

Although Cameron is quite new to the art scene his work is already
highly sought after by collectors both locally, interstate and interest from overseas is already forming. Cameron’s attention to detail and shading work is a force to be reckoned with which is already making established artists nervous.

Mythmaker is the second Solo exhibition by Cameron and his final show before he takes his work to Melbourne and leaving Adelaide behind. Cameron is sure to explode in a big way on both the Melbourne and International art scene."

Well, we’re looking forward to seeing more of Camerons work over here in the ‘burn, that’s for sure!

Thursday Transmissions – Easter, Home & Dreams

Did you really think we’d let you start your Easter break without getting around to our Thursday Transmissions? We’re chillin at Invurt HQ for the moment before heading out to Thursday night smashtown, so thought I might as well bang it out!

Whatever you’re up to over the long weekend, stay safe and have a good one – we’ll have a couple small updates, but we’ll be back in full force next week. Over twenty shows and events over the rest of April – holy shitballs its going to get hectic … so watch on for your video fix!

invurt studio thumb Thursday Transmissions Easter, Home & Dreams

You know, we really dislike videos that don’t contain embed codes – this isn’t the 90s, people, but we absolutely love this piece about the crew at Squishface Studios – so click on and check it!!

Okay, for some idiotic reason we didn’t check this, and thought when we saw it that it was actually just an old promo video for Outpost – but damn, if this isn’t the full feature video for Kid Zooms Home exhibition on the island – rad!

Askew posted up this video that summarises Auckland Cities harsh and completely backward graffiti laws. Interesting piece.

Mark Whelan, who used to run under the Kill Pixie moniker, has a really cool feature video up over at Juxtapoz – nice!

We posted a bit of this in another video a few weeks ago, but here’s another full wrapup of the Street Dreams festival over in Adelaide- definitely getting over there next year!!

Alrighty, fuckit, that’s enough for this week – time for more drinks, roll on Easter!!

Exhibition – James Dodd – Top End Scrawl – Adelaide

The muchly talented James Dodd has been painting and exhibiting works both locally and internationally for over ten years. With his roots in street and public art, his work holds an important place in both the evolution, and future, of Australian art.

Having spent some time last year exploring Arnhem Land and the Top End, James has spent a lot of his time lately taking the thing that he saw and experienced into his own artistic world, translating the culture, scrawlings and environs of the Top End into a new body of work to be displayed in Adelaide this week.

"I’ve been locked in my studio lately completing a new suite of works of that will be shown at Hugo Michell Gallery in Adelaide next week. The work continues my investigations into interpretations of found text such as graffiti, particularly that which is found in Australia’s Top End."

Judging from the image below, we’re really looking forward to seeing some pics from the show – hammerhead sharks and scrawl! Mad combination right there!

Exhibition – Sync – The Walls Have Ears – Adelaide

Over the last few weeks we’ve been seeing bits and pieces of work that Sync has been putting together for his first solo show in over ten years – and what we have seen, we really, really like.

As a member of the renowned Everfresh crew, Sync has a long history in the creative world. Starting out in sticker art and smashing Adelaide with them during his time as a bike courier, he then moved into multilayer stencils and beyond. Indeed, his "spektapod" characters have, over the years, become a real icon in Australian street art.  He has also featured in several publications such as the Everfresh Black Book, and was a part of the National Gallery Space Invaders exhibition.

It is hard not to recognise a Sync piece when you see it – with flowing lines and movement, it’s a style that is definably his own. Yet one of the cool things we noticed with the teasers he has thrown out into the public over the last few weeks, are the directions he has been going in – his work has matured, grown and is most definitely moving into new and interesting areas.

We wish we could make it to this show – or that was on here in Melbourne, but, as it is, we’ll just have to sit back and wait for all the photos to roll in. Can’t wait!!

Event – Street Dreams Urban Art Festival – Adelaide

We loved seeing this festival last year and vowed to get over to it this year, but alas we are not able to – but the annual Street Dreams festival is one great event for Adelaide, and its something that anyone who loves art out on the streets should attend!!!! This is one of the best parts of Adelaide Fringe by far.

"After the success of the 2011 festival, Street Dreams is back to celebrate everything Street Art during the 2012 Adelaide Fringe. In just 2 days the festival features mural painting, an epic street art tour, workshops, Pimp my T-shirt party and the famous Dumpster Biennale.

Street Dreams is run on a volunteer basis with the aim of building a platform to showcase and celebrate street art in Adelaide. Exhibition & Live Art – Discombobulate – Cold Krush – Adelaide

Well doesn’t this look mighty fine? Besides using one of my favourite words in the English language (hey, its in the dictionary!) this show running alongside the Adelaide Fringe Festival looks to be pretty banging.

Opening this Thursday, Discombobulated will have a whole range of cool shit for just about everyone.

“A dynamic visual art exhibition featuring new works by Australia’s leading graffiti art practitioners. The show will include works by local, interstate and a couple of very special international artists. Featuring a live art showcase on the opening night.”

It seems these days also, that live art is just par for the course for openings and such, and seeing as we love that shit, we love seeing that there will be a display of some of SAs finest along with the show!

Have fun, Radelaidians, this looks like a top night.

Exhibition – Espionage Gallery First Birthday – Adelaide

Has it really only been a year since Espionage opened up in Adelaide? The gallery feels like it’s been such a mainstay with event in South Australia over the past year that we could swear its always been there. Josh Smith and his crew have done amazing things for the art scene over there in this past year, with a huge range of exhibitions and events – and this first birthday show looks to be no exception to that.

"Espionage Gallery is proud to present our One Year Anniversary

exhibitions planned featuring prominent established and emerging

Exhibition – Betwixt & Beyond – Adelaide

Espionage Gallery in Adelaide had a great first year last year, and we are really excited to see what they have in store for 2012 – and after having received news of their first group show this year, Betwixt & Beyond, in the mail yesterday we’re doubly excited.

"Join 6 local artists on Thursday the 19th of January at 6 pm to view
the visual findings of their explorations into the worlds of the micro
& the macro. Come along and peek beneath the surface, read between the lines and marvel amidst the cracks of an Ink Jamboree."

Looks to be a fun little illustration show, and we so love a bunch of ink and lines … if you haven’t been to Espionage just yet, next week is a great time to introduce yourself to what they do best.

Exhibition – Lisa King – Gazing Heroes – Adelaide

We first saw some of Lisa Kings work back in July when we saw news of her show at Paperhorse Studios, and we vowed to keep an eye on what she’s been up to. The other day she sent us this flyer for her next show – our diligent eyes almost missed it, how’s that for powers of observation!

We’re lucky we saw it though, and those of you in Adelaide are lucky you have it on in your midst – this next show from Lisa will delve into an “exuberant world of playfulness, innocence and escapism through the works of wood sculpted longboards, decks and paintings.”

Sculpted longboards? Decks? Paintings. Yep, that sounds about perfect.

Exhibition – Joshua Smith – 300 – Adelaide

Prolific artist, and the man behind Adelaides amazing Espionage Gallery, Joshua Smith, is having another solo show this Thursday night – and its one for everyone.

Josh is a phenomenally cool stencil artist, up there with the best of them . Often feminine in nature, his work is vibrant and alluring, belying the effort that often goes into the design and cutting processes behind each piece. When we caught up with Joshua in an interview a few months ago, we got the overwhelming impression of a creative, hard working and passionate artist – and this next show looks pretty damn cool.

"Internationally renowned stencil artist and gallery director Joshua
Smith is unveiling his newest solo show, 300, with the premise of making his art affordable for everyone.

As the title suggests, all the pieces in the exhibition will be market at
that price, creating equal opportunity for all to get their hands on a Joshua Smith original. The work Smith does on the streets is for all to enjoy, and instead of making art on canvases to cater only for collectors, he felt it was important to hold an exhibition of work that was affordable for everyone. With his extremely collectible art, and over 104 exhibitions worldwide, Smith is a force to be reckoned with. Furthermore, he recently took out the 2011 King of Canvas aerosol art
prize, in addition to being a 2011 Australian Stencil Art Prize
finalist.

Needless to say, this exhibition is not to be missed."

The last sentence says it all, really!
