Well this one snuck up on us, and once again its great to see our kind of art thriving up on the Gold Coast.
Comb Gallery just celebrated their first birthday, and they have done a great job in their first year. Combs mission statement is to "provide the southern coastal region with a space for local, established and up and coming artists to display their work. Comb offers a space for cultural exchange and is a hub for the community to relax and share appreciation for art." – which is, obviously, right up our alley.
"Whole" looks like a pretty cool group show, with representation from artists all around Australia and New Zealand, many of whose names you are more than familiar with! The theme, though fairly simple, is one with a huge range of creative scope.
"The circle is a powerful symbolic form that holds a vast array of different associations throughout visual culture. This universal shape embodies our physical reality, from minute microscopic structures like the atom to the grandiose scale of the planetary giants. The circle has also been utilized to help understand and define our inner worlds as a symbol of balance and wholeness in psychological and spiritual practices. For ëWholeí we have asked a variety of artists from different backgrounds and stylistic approaches to create a work using this motif."
Sounds like a real smorgasbord of great art, and we’re sure it’ll prove an absolute hit – nice job, Comb crew.
