InUrban – Suburban Feature – Northcote

In our newest feature column, InUrban, we’ve been asking bloggers, writers and general art aficionados to do small spotlights on the areas in which they live, bringing highlights to suburbs and towns across Australia. If you love your hometown, suburb or city, and wish to do a spotlight piece on what’s going on around there, no matter where you are, just contact us.

First up is Vetti, from the amazing Vetti Live In Northcote blog – Vetti will be doing a monthly post as a part of Inurban, highlighting the Northcote area in the greater Melbourne metro area. Starting off with some recent work by Snotrag, as well as covering some of the work thats been done around Northcote for the Northern Exposure festival, Vetti knows her home, and she knows her art …

Vetti – Northcote

Why do I love Northcote so much? For a start, the north is full of creative people, and there’s just so much art to enjoy – both on, and off the streets …

Yesterday, I encountered a large painting by Snotrag in my wanderings around Northcote. Snotrag met Kau’s owners via mutual friends, now this three week old cafe has a stunning commissioned work. The wall above can be seen through the cafe’s rear door, and took the artist two days to complete.

See more of Snotrag’s pieces at the Tunnel Vision group show, coming soon to Platform Artspace. You can find Find Kau at 541 High St, Northcote.

NORTHERN EXPOSURE 2011

“Welcome to Northern Exposure 2011, where the street is the gallery.”

Right now, High Street Northcote is buzzing with activity. High Views is
transforming shop windows, and Small Works, Small Spaces taking over the outdoors (Don’t forget to check out tonights show at At Large Gallery also, which will be one of the focal point for the Small Spaces portion of the show!).

It’s so good to see this year’s festival focussing on the street, alleyways, and building exteriors, as well as galleries and interior spaces…

Here’s just a taste of what you’ll see on opening night – make sure you’re in High Street at 6pm tonight (Friday the 17th!) …
