Event – Red Bull Wreckers Yard – Auckland NZ

A packed crowd braved the cold and rain to watch the second New Zealand heat of the Red Bull Wreckers Yard live art event in Auckland over the weekend.

Cinzah AKA ‘Seekayem’ won the battle and a spot in the trans-tasman final. Cinzah joins artists Yels and Itch, along with the winners of the Aussie heats still to come, for what we’re sure will be an epic finals night here in Melbourne, at the end of June.

In each round two artists were given a theme, 60 seconds to visualise their creation and a tense 12 minutes of spraying to get it all on canvas for judges Adam Bryce (Creator of SLAMXHYPE), Matt Dowman (Artist & tutor at Whitecliff) and Chey Ataria (skater, designer & director of ABC). The three judging criteria were; theme interpretation, control and creativity.

The crowd watched in awe as the talented artists battled it out canvas after canvas. The process of elimination lead to semi finals where Enu and Gasp battled it out to the theme of ‘Music’ – with Enu coming out on top. In the second semi, Cinzah and Liam Moore had to interpret ‘Nature’ – with Cinzah winning a place in the finals against Enu.

The final match was set with  the theme ‘Chance’. The painting time was extended to 15 minutes giving the artists more time to create their last masterpieces. Enu tossed a lucky coin onto the canvas in a flurry of Ironlak fumes. Cinzah took on a water theme with a sink or swim message hitting his canvas. It was Cinzah who got the nod from the judges and the crowd, riding his wave to Red Bull Wreckers Yard victory!
