Bass Invursions #31

It was another Easter weekend of mayhem, and it was great to see everyone down at Rollers Easter special, and even better to see d’n’b on a Thursday night again – the after parties at both Capitol and Mekka were amazing as well. With a weekend followed by the nuts-oid shenanigans of Craze dropping some d’n’b at Ambar amongst his other tunes, and Bukem and Conrads performance at Shape, well, if anyone had a doubt as to the state of play for d’n’b in Perth over and Easter weekend, then this one just gone should put to rest any rumours of us being dullsville.

I’ve mentioned it before, but Pendulums live set at Robinson Pavilion on April the 19th is set to be a absolute corker. Word is that there are still a couple of tickets left to this gig at the time of writing, but if you are keen then make sure you get in as soon as possible. This will be their last live gig here in Perth for quite some time, so it will be well worth the money spent. Not content with such a huge headliner though, it’s sounding like the after party at Shape is also going to be off the hook as its been confirmed that both Chase and Status will be making an appearance – they have a new album out soon, so its a perfect time to see them. Looks like Naras is pulling out all the stops for the night, awesome work.

Heavyweight Soundz is the other big gig coming up at Metros on the 25th of April, and who will want to miss a chance to see DJ Marky when he hits town? Teamed up with Stamina MC, and supported by Diamond D, Concept, Morry, Dair and Highroller, and with Stylee, Assassin, Xessiv and Webzz on the night. Loaded Dice and Marky are sure to give us all we want and more, yet again. It’s party time, Brazilian style.

Mekka has a good one coming up this Friday night, with a host of locals including Sardi, Access, Skirmish, Stiltz, Aspect and Linesaw all ready to lay it down at Bar Opens Club 234.

Not content with packing out the Rosemount last Thursday, the Roller boys have another gig coming up with a very special pre-Anzac day gig. Spread over two rooms, this gig of near epic proportions will have ShockOne vs Phetsta and the Roller crew in the d’n'b room, and, as an extra treat, in the second room Greg Packer will be going back to back with Sardi with a super duper 80s set, and David Lee Froth and Dave L will be rocking out the disco and funk. It’s free entry and the gig goes til 1am. Perfect.

There’s rumours of an unconfirmed gig by Patife coming up, possibly at Rise nightclub sometime in June – more news on this one as it’s confirmed, but if he’s coming down then I’d advise you check him out, his last tour here he played superbly.

Release time? It’s been a while since I heard an Apex tune that piqued my interest but his most recent one out on white with Horizons, Falling, is right up my alley. Nice little atmospherics on this one. Atlantic Connection have a fun new single with Remember Tulum, something different and nicely laid back, which seems to be a trend this wee, as Sabbia & SQbass have something of the same vein with By The Sea. This tune really does evoke the whole seaside escapade, and from all appearances, it really looks like everyone is starting to release those northern summer tunes in preparation for those warmer months up there.

Finally, this week marks my goodbye and sojourn from Perth for the not-so-sunny climes of Melbourne, so get on down to Mekka this Friday for some awesome tunes and a couple of drinks! Take it ez, all!
